McLaren Woodworks have been making fine furniture and other products from Hawaiian Koa and Mango wood for the last 32 yrs. We supply many of Hawaii's upscale Gallery’s with Rocking Chairs, Damascus knifes, curly koa pens and our Heritage hairbrush and mirror sets plus many more items that you will find for sale on this web site.
Our workshop is situated on the beautiful Hamakua coast of the big island of Hawaii approximately 40 miles North of the city of Hilo. The workshop is stocked with many board feet of Musical grade mega-curly Hawaiian koa. Our Koa was cut down and kiln dried 27 years ago before the decline of the Hawaiian large old growth forests and the rules and restrictions that apply to the milling of Hawaiian Koa today.
We have attempted to keep abreast of the times by doing things the old-fashioned way but still making use of Twin Spindle water cooled CNC Machines and Laser Machines.
Poi Dog Ukulele & Guitars
Late in 2010 because of a decline in luthiers on the Big Island we decided to start a new branch.
Poi Dog Ukulele & Guitars uses only the best musical grade Koa and Mango to build beautiful Ukulele, Guitars and Archtop Guitars. All of our curly Hawaiian Koa wood Ukulele are available in acoustic or electric/acoustic. Our instruments are handmade, we use a state of the art two headed laser for inlay work; only because we want our inlay New Zealand Paua Shell to be perfect every time. All our instruments are 100% made here in mclaren Woodworks workshop on the Hamakua coast of the Big Island of Hawaii.
Our instruments are for sale on this web site or at the ‘Woodshop Gallery’ in the cute little sugar cane village of Honomu 14 miles North of the city of Hilo.
